chromecast not connecting

I have an RT-AC3200 with Merlin 380.67. A single SSID covers all three radios.

Neither a gen.1 nor a gen.2 chromecast appears to want to connect to the network (even when 2.4 only). I've yet to see it listed on the status screen as associated, though it's possible it does briefly. Both chromecasts have been factory reset. I have experimented with the IGMP snooping on/off.

I've not noticed issues with other devices - ipad 3, iphone 5s/6s+/7+, 3 windows laptops, HP printer, ms surface, ancient kindle, and a whole slew of other devices

I still have further things to try including disabling QOS & further experimentation with different wifi settings (channel width etc), but wondered if anyone else had faced, and ideally resolved, a similar issue?

thanks
Nigel.

Hi,

Although I have an AC88 (close to the same...), I have CC (ChromeCast) Ultra nowdays, had the previous one just before. I had similar issues you describe when I did not allow internet access for ChromeCast. And by the way, on the Firewall - Network Services Filter TAB/option, I only have ports 80 (TCP), 53 (UDP), 443 (TCP), 123 (UDP) open... So it will work, just let it get outside your firewall?

As far as I could understand the Chromecast is not even connecting to his wifi AP, so ports shouldn't be the issue and all those ports weren't supposed to be opened already in the first place!?

Sorry if I'm askign something that's already been tried, but have you tried rebooting the router?

Yes reboot tried :)

The issue was that I had enabled (required) secure management frames (802.11w).my other devices are ok with this but not gen 1/2 chromecast.

Now at capable and working
