CIFS connect - any way to elim name mangling?

I've been extremely satisfied with the Merlin firmware on my N66U and I do have a USB drive connected that I use for a backup repository. Works fine except the filenames created are mangled (SMB/Cifs users know what I mean). As the filenames contain dates and times for reference I'd like to be able to eliminate the file mangling if possible. I've searched through the config screen and can see no references.

Is this possible with this firmware? Or any other work around (I know - keep filenames 8 chars or shorter).

Thanks

 Well I stand (sit) corrected. Apparently the files ARE being created on the USB drive with the correct file names (unmangled) as when I look at them from my Linux CLI I can see the entire filenames. However, when I look at them with Windows 7 they appear mangled. That indicates its a Win 7 issue (not that important then).

Great job Merlin! ;)

Re-visiting file name manging

Well back on this issue - while it appears the filenames on the attached USB drive are long, when viewed by windows explorer they appear mangled (shortened). In normal smb.conf there is a global operative to prevent this. I see no config item to address this in the USB/smb section.

Does anyone know of a way/place to insert this config option into the router cifs/smb config file/section? Do I need to locate and edit the routers smb.cnf file???

Just though I would ask.

OK - Resolved

Well, enabled ssh access to the router, got in and edited /etc/smb.conf and under the [global] section added the line "mangled name = no". Now windows explorer display the ENTIRE long filenames.

Just hope this resolution helps someone else. :)

That change wont survive a reboot (or a Samba restart) however. Take a look at the new postconf scripts introduced in 374.36 Beta 1.
