New Around Here
Hi everyone - we are a dev team that is porting the Android OS to wireless routers.

We currently have Android running on the ASUS RT-AC66U, Linksys EA6500, and Netgear R6300.

We are looking for technical folks to help us test alpha builds.

Please let us know if you would like to help out. Our web site is at www.droidifi.com.

The firmware will be a free upgrade for any routers we can support.

Good your going to support 802.11ac for WiFi Routers. I already have Android PowerCode 1000 ROM ready to go with 802.11ac protocols for Android Tablets that support 802.11ac VT (very high throughput), currently 802.11n HTP (high throughput plus) are in all my Android PowerCode ROM and prior was my Android Bulldog ROM with 802.11n HT over 25 ROMs.

Which Routers are you supporting? I take it the the EA6500?

Initially we will support:

Asus RT-AC66U
Linksys EA6500
Netgear R6300

These are all based on a Broadcom MIPS SoC with a 74kc core. We will add others as popularity and time allows.

802.11ac at 1.3 mbps is our focus. We see this as the first wireless protocol fast enough to replace Ethernet in many cases, hence our focus on "mesh" as a feature.

Since MIPS is largely going away in the wireless space, we will port to ARM CPUs in the next 6-12 months. (The next series of wireless SoC's due this Summer are mainly ARM based). This is another reason we like Android - it's multi CPU and ARM is well supported.

Thanks!

We are planning on releasing an alpha build in the next few days. It is only for folks that have a serial - USB cable attached to their router. (This is because you need to flash using the command line).

We are planning on releasing a beta build in 2-3 weeks. You won't need a cable for the beta release.

Will Droidifi support most likely Netgear WNDR3700 and WNDR3400 (USB supported), ASUS RT-N66R, and RTN56U?

If so please put router supported list if available. I would like to try this Droidifi. I have not heard about this. I was like Android finally made idea about android router. It's very cool! And you could develop the dual wan supported with load balancing or failover and 3G/4G back up if no Internet from WAN.

The devices need a fairly speedy CPU and at least 128 MB of RAM/flash to run Android. We are also focused on the new 802.11ac high-speed wireless standard.

There are a bunch of new dual core ARM CPU based devices coming out in Summer 2013. We will probably focus on these rather than back-porting to older hardware. The older stuff just doesn't have the horsepower and storage needed.
