Connect just some of the clients through VPN and the rest without VPN

Hi,
I have an Asus RT-AC68U with asuswrt-merlin 3.0.0.4.374.37_0 and a plan: I would like to connect my router to a VPN server and be able to ask some of the clients to go on internet through the VPN and others directly on internet bypassing the VPN connection. (I am using static IP's for all my clients.)

Is it possible to accomplish my idea?

Cheers!

This was asked very recently - do a search. :)

If you don't want to create the scripts and iptables consider using Astrill as your VPN provider. They have an add on for Merlin's firmware which gives you lots of control over what goes local and what goes VPN. Self installs and creates its own TAB.

The downside is depending on your location and speed of your local ISP connection Astrill may not be your fastest VPN connection.

The downside is the fact that one has to pay. I don't need a VPN provider, I need a working script to manage VPN connection.

I did managed to find 1 result on this forum, but the script doesn't work...

I agree, this is the best solution ever! Especially that through their optimized RouterPro VPN protocol you can achieve 5x higher speeds than through standard OpenVPN protocol. Their applet has so many configuration abilities and the recent addition allows you even to choose which WiFi radio is supposed root through VPN, e.g. you can have one radio names Home_VPN and switch as required :)

The OP has clarified what he is trying to accomplish which is to connect two LANs using a VPN connection between them.

He wants to run the VPN client on his ASUS router at the local end and connect to a VPN server at the far end. I'm sure it can be done as it is the same scenario as when you connect to your VPN provider running a VPN client on your router.

As for Astrill being fast they are, but even connecting to them using my VPN Accelerator I seldom could get over a 40 Mbps download speed when connecting to their nearest server. Using the same setup with StongVPN and connecting to a VPN server in the same city can I get between 65- 75 Mbps.

Hardware is important, but having a fast VPN provider with lots of bandwidth is probably equally important.

The Astrill setup works very well for my wife who often wants to connect using either a VPN server in Sweden or the UK. I run the Astrill app on an ASUS N66 behind my primary router. My wife then can switch from NYC, to Stockholm or London by using the pull down menus. Getting her to make the switch using a router running DD-WRT was beyond her very limited router skills and even shorter patience levels.

alter the part in the script (nvram get wan_gateway) to (nvram get wan0_gateway) and restart the vpn client connection

That was the issue, thank you!

Now I have another idea and I need some help with it.
I would like to connect to 2 VPN servers and redirect 2 different clients on each vpn connection, but not the entire traffic.
How should I do it?

Cheers!
