Connected devices being asked for router log in when accessing external sites

I have an RT-N66 running John's fork (13E1)

For the last few days I and family members have been seeing the router log-in page when accessing external sites from various devices (Windows 7 PCs, iPhone4S, iPhone6 etc). If you enter the router log-in username/password it brings up the router log-in page - not the site being requested. A reboot normally fixes this (sometimes it takes a couple of reboots).

I do recall seeing this very occasionally with earlier Merlin and John's builds - but its happening sometimes twice a day now.

Any idea what's going on?

Are you using some sort of redirect for adblocking or something? Perhaps your redirecting things to the default gateway (router)?

A couple of things to try/check.....

- Some AV suites do background scans of known web addresses, and can trigger a hidden login window that needs a response. Make sure the router address is excluded from any type of this scanning.

- If you have the redirect to error page setting set to one of the options on the main WAN page, you could be having a temporary WAN outage and it's trying to redirect you to the router error page (sometimes it seems as if it wants the login info if the error goes away quickly). Check your syslog for any WAN outage messages or turn off the redirect to see if it helps.

That may be it - the redirect to error page was set.

Thanks
