CPU Pinned at 100% NIC

I notice when I try to stream from the attached USB HD to my AmazonTV running XBMC via wifi, it hangs buffering. Upon further investigation, for some reason my RT-N66U keeps getting it's CPU pinned on NIC.
from `top`:
Code:
Mem: 176012K used, 63700K free, 0K shrd, 2704K buff, 140572K cached
CPU: 0.0% usr 0.0% sys 0.0% nic 100% idle 0.0% io 0.0% irq 0.0% sirq
Load average: 0.19 0.09 0.03 1/60 8337
EDIT: never mind, it looks like I was miss-reading this, and it's 100% idle! yet I can't stream content from the USB drive.
I am not sure if it is pinned before I start streaming or not.
If I reboot the router all is well again, and the streaming works just fine.

I am currently running 376.45 of MerlinWRT, the USB drive is a 750G ext3 formatted WD Elements drive.
Any ideas on what else I can check to help pin point this issue?
