Creating a VPN

Hi guys,

This is my first post, so please be gentle :) (just registered to ask this question)

Firstly, Thank you Merlin for all your hard work. I've been following your firmware for a long time and I must say your brilliant!

Right, so my problem:

I have certain devices on my network (cctv, nas, digital pvr) that I port forward onto the internet. I have been doing this for years without a problem however very recently I have noticed that someone has been accessing my pvr from the internet. They have been watching some of my channels from my box, I can see this as it tells me someone is logged on. Please note that all my devices on the internet are password protected.

I ran a netstat on my box and it gave me the ip address, which seems to be located in Belgium (im in the UK). The person must have been watching for a long time, as I uploaded 10GB (according to the router).

I was told never to use port forwarding as it is not secure and to use a vpn.
So I wanted to know if someone can help me set it up as I followed some tutorials online however this has not helped.

I also wanted to know whether the speed when streaming content over the net using vpn will become slow? (I have 120mg down and 12mg up)

How can I access this over my phone? Do I need to connect to the vpn all the time to view my pvr and cctv? Because at the moment the app automatically connects me when I click onto the app.

What if I just wanted to use VPN for my pvr and normal port forwarding for my cctv and nas, would that be possible?

And my last question is how will this work if I take my laptop to work, is there a setting/ or settings that need to be added?

Sorry for the long post guys, but Id really appreciate some help!

Thanks in advance! (RT-N66U- 374.40)

I think I'm not qualified to reply to your question, but can't you setup your own vpn using OpenVPN?

Well what I have done now is just create a PPTP server by using the instructions on the router. It seems to work well actually, so I think my problem is solved.

Thanks for your help mate! :)
