D-Link DIR-655 Visible Ports

mayerling

New Around Here
Just got a D-Link DIR-655 version B1, running firmware 2.00NA.

Set up the router between the cable modem and mac computer without difficulty.

Ran Gibson's Shields Up! utility and found that ports 0 and 1 show up as "closed" rather than "stealth."

(With 3 other routers I have used, ports 0 and 1 showed us as "stealth" with the same basic setup.)

Anyone have any info on how to force the firewall to hide these ports so that they appear as "stealth"?

People have apparently been complaining about this issue with the DIR-655 and several other D-Link routers for years now, but the firmware apparently hasn't been changed to fix the problem.

Update:
The latest firmware DOES seem to have addressed this issue.

When I initially set up the router, I tried to access the latest firmware from within the router's web-based utility (at 192.168.0.1). That utility's update function claimed that the firmware that was already installed was the most recent available.

This seemed a little strange (no update in over a year?), but was the information I was using for the previous post in this thread.

I just checked the dlink website and found that version 2.03NA from June 2011 is actually the most recent firmware release. I installed that one, and now all ports show as "stealth."
