Something weird happened, upgraded to latest beta fine last night, came home this afternoon and my router is dead, lan lights turn on quickly, no power light cannot get recovery mode at all. weird thing too is my usb stick that was connected the partition was deleted !!

Putting aside i know howto flash/recover etc etc , has my router just died or was it hacked .

Or test a different one.

Yeah not power supply works on my other 87U , man i am baffled .. there is a slight blue hint on power light and a slight red hint on internet led

Try this:

1. Power OFF.
2. Press WPS button without releasing it.
3. Power ON.

After check the Powed LED status.

4. Release WPS button. (After 10-15sec of step 3.)

Still same , LAN led will light up if i connect it to PC it cant find a network and router is not pingable :( something is very wrong.

You will need a RMA, RT-AC87U is a problematic model so nothing new here.

Good luck.

Have you tried using the firmware restoration utility with the outer in recovery mode?

  1. Remove all USB components from the router.
  2. Power off the router. Press and hold the reset button and press the power button while continuing to press the reset button. Once the power LED starts to slowly blink release the reset button.
  3. Set you network adapter to a static IP address, I use 192.168.1.17 with a subnet of 255.255.255.0 and the gateway to 192.168.1.1.
  4. Plug an Ethernet cable into your network adapter and any port on the router besides the WAN port and LAN port #1.
  5. Use the restoration utility to reflash the router.
You should be all set. If not then the router is bricked.

Check the local situation - but in Cali - the warranty starts on the manf, date if the purchase date cannot be confirmed.

Asus should be able to resolve this with the S/N - and even then, the 87U has been problematic over time - so play it right, and you'll be fine...

Sorry. Didn't see that it won't go into recovery mode. All you can do is trying to clear the nvram using the WPS button. Power off then press and hold the WPS button while booting up the router. My AC87U takes 20 seconds for the power LED to rapidly blink to signal the nvram has been cleared. I then repeat it and it takes 5 seconds for the power LED to rapidly flash. Then try using recovery mode. It the router still won't go into recovery mode its bricked.

Have you tried a different power supply? I keep a spare on hand. Mine was purchased here and my AC87U works just fine with it.
