When I setup reservation IP in DHCP and assign my printers's hostname to "printer". The command "ping printer" will resolve and work on Linux machine, and will fail to resolve on Windows machines. If I do an "nslookup printer" on a Windows machine it will resolve, and if I do "ping printer." on a Windows machine it will resolve. I believe this is due to no NetBIOS support in dnsmasq.

Is it possible to add NetBIOS support into dnsmasq? I want to say this worked on my old Tomato based routers.

Configure a local domain, and make sure your clients all use the router as both their DHCP server and their DNS server. Windows is simply brain damaged in handling hostnames if it doesn't have a proper domain name to append to it.
