is it possible for me to log when clients connect/disconnect. Can't see any built in options to view this data

Thanks

DHCP only shows you when a client asks for or renews a lease. It doesn't show you connects or disconnects.

Search the forums for any of the many threads that have already asked your question.

I had a look and could only really see using cron to check for a mac every x mins, not sure how this would work with phones in sleep/power save mode. Would also like to see if there is a better way, like looking at a log for a certain event rather than running a script via cron every so often

How would this be useful (or a concern?).

Anything is "possible", but DHCP is generally harmless as long as everything else is good...

I'm only looking to use it for monitoring when certain devices connect/disconnect from the network, so i know roughly when these devices enter/leave the building

If your question is limited to purely wireless devices then the only way to know for sure is to query the wireless system with "wl assoclist".

This has been discussed in the other threads.
