Synology DS209 vs. QNAP TS-239 vs. Thecus N2200 vs. ReadyNAS Duo vs. FreeNAS DIY
Simplifying my last post:
Looking for simple home file and media server.
Min requirements:
1) 2 bay, hot swap RAID 1 diskless NAS (already have 2 750MB Seagate Barracuda)
2) Time Machine backups
3) Mac/linux/Windows connectivity
4) Media streaming to Samsung Blu Ray and TV (wired)
5) Remote file access (FTP)
6) EASY GUI
7) Hard drive management (ability to spin down drives for power consumption)
8) Blog/Web hosting
9) Security (SSH? or similar)
I am currently running a DIY FreeNAS box on an old Dell Optiplex. Want to try to downsize to get the power consumption down and noise level down.
I am comfortable with linux (Ubuntu server and/or FreeNAS), but concerned about security once I start hosting and FTP. Would also prefer good, simple GUI instead of CLI.
Any suggestions?
Thanks and sorry for rambling first post. Still a noob...
