DLNA server usb issue??

disenter

Occasional Visitor
Hi,

I'm not really sure if this is an issue or if thats just the way its supposed to be, but each time I have to plug my usb in, or restart the router, or add new files to it via ftp through the router, the router will rescan the entire drive, which literally takes a good hour.

During that time, remote clients are able to access it, but only as it scans it... so to bad if you wanted a video that started with "W", its gonna be an hour before you can watch it.

It's a 2Tb drive, and fair enough there is a lot of files on it, but why does it take so long?? Plug the drive into anything else and it can be browsing through it, and playing whatever off it in seconds!

Any ideas?

I think I may have found the reason for it...

look through minidlna.log and its full of it trying to link crap from the art_cache which im assuming its grabbing from wherever on the net, and attempting to link them to every mp3 i own, and failing every single time anyway.

*facepalm*

Is there any way to stop it from trying to get album art etc at all? I don't want or need it :\

minidlna only extracts artwork from the ID3 tags. It does not do any online lookup.

Hmm well that's good to know.

But is there a simple way of turning that off?

I'll post the log file when I'm home so you can see what I mean... It probably wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't failing on every single file and taking 10-20secs per file to decide it's failed before moving onto the next... But really I don't need it anyway, so if it can be turned off/disabled that would be fine :)

Thanks for your time :)

can't seem to get it happening :\

used a git client to clone the repository, ftp'd it up to my router, but just dropped it on my external drive, ssh to router, get to the directory, and get this..

admin@Router:/tmp/mnt/PS3Video/minidlna-fastscan# ./configure
-sh: ./configure: not found

but its there....

./make also doesn't work.

:\

How can I add this in?? :O

You will need a Linux machine, with a complete development environment to crosscompile this. You can't do this from the router.

Ahh... figures.

Would a live disc suffice? Or a vm'd distro?

"cross-compile"... now that has me scratching.

It's been awhile, but sure i've compiled stuff on linux/unix before, but can't say i've ever needed to do it on one sys, for another... more reading of the ... manual *sigh* lol

Guess this will kind of be moot, I am planning to put together a half decent NAS... but still find it interesting to see what can be done with this humble router.

But I'm not much of a coder :\

Since this thread has your attention good sir, might you point me in the direction of where I might find useful scripts, and a bit of a how-to-add them to this router?

Thanks in advance. Love your work, and appreciate your time.
