DNS failover timeout

New Around Here
ASUS RT-N66U - 376.45

I currently use a separate local DNS server that forwards any non FQDN items to an external DNS. I am using the option under LAN for "Forward local domain queries to upstream DNS" and this works great for everything I do except for my guest network.

My guest network is setup to block the intranet, meaning those clients can't hit my internal DNS server either. After about 3 seconds it will fail and any query will go through via the external DNS server specified on the WAN page. To be clear, it DOES work - however I am curious if there is a way to get rid of some of the delay they experience when on the guest network. Every single time they go to a new page the timer starts and it's a little annoying knowing I have plenty of bandwidth, it just won't go! If I could change it to 1 second even vs 3 it would be nice!

Thanks!

**Just realized I may be in the wrong sub-forum here - sorry about that. This isn't wireless related.
