dnsmasq question

i need to add this to dnsmasq for my outgoing email.

address=/p17-smtp.mail.me.com/17.158.52.52

i created the dnsmasq.conf.add in the jffs/configs location. what exactly do i need to place in the file? i tried just adding "address=/p17-smtp.mail.me.com/17.158.52.52" but that doesn't look to be the correct format.

It would help if you descibed in detail why you think it 'doesn't look right'

i.e. when the dnsmasq service is started does it show as correctly processing the 'address=' directive in syslog or are there error messages reported?

...according to a sample dnsmasq documentation page the syntax of the directive is shown:

# Add domains which you want to force to an IP address here.
# The example below send any host in double-click.net to a local
# web-server.
#address=/double-click.net/127.0.0.1

It throws errors in syslog as well as seems to break the internet access. Just made me think that perhaps I have it in the wrong format or am messing up elsewhere.

Did you add that line in quotes (I believe it shouldn't have quotes)? Also, are you using a linux-friendly text editor to create your conf.add file?

I've tried it with and without quotes. As for the text editor, I used vi during ssh session. Is vi ok?

I've also had vpn issues. I'll try to get that sorted out first before continuing with this to make sure the vpn isn't the issue rather than this.

well, got the vpn issue sorted out and re-added the

address=/p17-smtp.mail.me.com/17.158.52.52

without quotes to dnsmasq.conf.add and all is well now. the vpn must have been causing issues as well. thanks to all for the help.
