It seems like my RT-AC68U stays on channel 6 on 2.4GHz pretty well all the time with Auto Channel set, regardless of what's going on around it. I am running the latest Merlin 376.47 firmware, but have noticed this on most Merlin or Asus firmware.
I tried an R7000 breifly and noticed it will jump around trying to get as little interference as possible. It will even try non 1-6-11 channels.
My question is, is there an algorithm in place that calculates signal levels from competing routers and adjusts the channel accordingly, or is it a very basic decision that sets channel 6 most of the time?
