The title says it all, i just purchased this router and im wondering if there is any way to flash this router with any other firmware. Thanks.

This is a budget router based on MediaTek platform and is good for the price. It all depends on what do you want.

I mean yeah its not bad tbh, it works fine. I bought this thing because all the routers my isp gives us are trash. I guess it works fine for normal use.

Not sure what normal and abnormal use is. :)

Merlin supported routers are listed on the Asus-Merlin website. The RT-AC65 is not supported by Asus-Merlin.

RMerlin, the developer of Asus-Merlin, answers the question of "will you support model XYZ?" in the following post:

There are other firmware's based on Asus-Merlin that can be used on a few unsupported routers.
https://www.snbforums.com/threads/fork-dsl-testers-gnutons-alpha-beta-merlin-builds.71150/ (DSL-AC68U, DSL-AX82U, RT-AX82U)

https://www.snbforums.com/threads/fork-asuswrt-merlin-374-lts-release-53d1.76814/

Other possible third party firmware versions for routers:
https://openwrt.org/toh/asus/rt-ac85p (RT-AC85P, RT-AC65P)
https://dd-wrt.com/support/router-database/ (does not appear to list RT-AC65)
https://tomato.groov.pl/?page_id=69 (Shibby Tomato does not appear to list RT-AC65)

Users of the RT-AC65 are likely going to be limited to the official Asus firmware for that model if no other third party firmware supports it.
