Does the DNS request goes over VPN tunnel or outside VPN tunnel on Asus Merlin firmware. If I Set DNS provided by VPN and Set Accept DNS Configuration to Strict.
I know than VPN DNS will be used if I set it manually. Please tell me if the DNS request goes over VPN tunnel or outside VPN tunnel on Asus Merlin firmware.
If I Set Accept DNS Configuration to Strict.

With strict your queries will be encrypted (inside the tunnel) from your VPN provider. Queries in strict aren’t encrypted if the DNS from your VPN can’t be found, your queries will then take another route, in this scenario your queries will be done by the WAN DNS. You can have WAN DNS queries encrypted with DoT. See your WAN page for DoT.
