Hi
I bought the Asus RT-N66U router about a month ago to substitute my aging D-link DGL-4100. A router that served me very well. One of the key reason for me to choose the RT-N66U was apart from the routers build quality, the presence of an independent firmware development. I followed the discussions on this forum for a couple of weeks before I bit the bullet. I’m impressed and grateful for Merlin’s dedication and with the willingness other forum members show to help out. SmallNetBuilder is treasure trove of information, in my view only beaten by Xlr8YourMac, since I’m a Mac user.
My reason to buy a new router was part NSA paranoia and fear of individuals with nefarious intentions in the wake of ”Internet-of-Things” trend.
Since 2010 I’ve had a setup with a Mac mini (10.6 - 10.9) a Power Mac (10.5.8) Leopard that I chiefly use as a server (torrents). I control the Power Mac with the help of Apple Remote Desktop (ARD).
My problem is that the Mac mini drops the connectivity with the power Mac at random. I use Apple Filing Protocol (AFP). I can tell since I most of the time retain connectivity via (ARD). As far as I can recall, it never happened with the D-link router. I find it strange since the RT-N66U is supposed to be Mac OS X compatible. On the other hand, maybe my configuration is to blame.
The problem has been present from Mac OS X 10.9.1 to 10.9.2 and Merlin 374.39 to 374.40.
I found a posting in another forum with a related issue.
