New Around Here
Hi guys!

I'm looking for some advice.

I'm a photographer and I handle quite alot of data. I'm going to invest in a NAS as I now have a 100mbit line from my home to my studio.

I want to be able to have the following setup.

A1= home workstation
A2= home nas
B= studio workstation
B2=studio workstation.

I would want to be able to have "live sync" from a1--->a2--->b2

In the studio i don't do that much work so i will work off the nas. But the reason i want live sync is that i want to be able to continue work from the studio without moving files manually and vice versa.

What is the best solutoin for this and how to configure?

I have gigabit lan networks in both studio and at home.

I want 8tb of storage on each nas.

I think that either of the NASes you are looking at would work. To achieve the replication you would most likely use the RSync protocol.

To help you decide between the two you should go to each manufacturer's web site because they have demos of the web interfaces to manage their NASes. Go with the one that you find the web interface most useable.

Thank you! Already ordered the synology as it was 200$ cheaper here than the qnap + you could expand it easier.

I think you made the right choice, i too have been trying to decide between the two company's and have researched every model just about and spent more time trying to come to a decision than any other purchase i think I've ever made! It is quite clear that for similar spec machines your paying roughly £100 extra for the qnap model compared to the synology. Qnap offer hot swap drives, an extra E-sata port and lan port on the home and small office models for the extra £100.

I think Ds-1511+ is far better value than the Ts-459 pro+ and Ts-559 pro+ and from what reviews I've read and the feedback from people who have used both say synologys interface is defo the best.
