Considering that the DS213 and DS213+ were announced in late August last year, the timing seems just about right.
Anyhow, I had been considering the DS213j, which compares favorably to the DS213 in Synology's benchmarks - but is the processor in the DS214 worth waiting for? (DS214+ is probably overkill for me). Can anyone with some knowledge of the Marvell processors say how this new processor may compare to the 2.0GHz single core used in the DS213?
The DS214 is based on a dual-core ARM-chip, manufactured by Marvel. This processor is clocked at 1066 MHz and is accompanied by 512 MB of DDR3 memory. External storage can be attached to the NAS through USB 3.0.The more luxurious DS214+ features a 1.6 GHZ dual-core Intel Atom processor, the CE5315. This 32-bits chip doesn't just provide such functionality as HyperThreading and Virtualization Technology, but also offers hardware-based H264 video-encoding, which can transcode for DLNA devices.
