Today I noticed this error on router's main page (red circle around the hard drive icon)

when I clicked on it I could read

Errors have been detected on your hard drive. Remove any damaged files or use a PC to correct system issues.

chkntfs returns 1

scanning again (using Rescan from router's main page) does not fix the issue

I have tried unmounting hard drive, connecting to my pc and then running a checkdisk but no problems are found

I can't find the error, also in the log (above) I can read "The volume /dev/sda1 appears to be OK."

router Asus RT-N66U
Firmware Version:3.0.0.4.376_1071

Is it a bug in router firmware ?

Windows check disk is not that great to begin with. Google for a free software that will check your HDD sector by sector.

You can also do a quick format and that might solve the issue.

You could have a faulty HDD from get go or the chip set that is used in external HDD case Is bad or crappy. These routers are very picky when it comes to HDD cases, the cables and chips they.use.

Try older.firmware as well.

thanks for the reply

the external hd has been connected to my router for a couple of month and I never had any problem (still now it's working without any problem)

I wonder if it started after my last firmware upgrade and if some other folks on this board had the same issue

Solution to the problem...

rick155 the problem this firmware Firmware 3.0.0.4.376.1071 always used the Seagate hard drive connected to my RT-N66U and never tve problems when I upgraded to Firmware 3.0.0.4.376.1071 RT-N66U accused error on the hard drive, causing me a tremendous headache thinking it was the hard drive when in fact it was the firmware. To solve this problem just vote for firmware 3.0.0.4.374.5517 of 04/14/2014 which will not aparesentar no error.

Thanks, I suspected it was firmware bug

If this "error" is just cosmetic, I prefer to stick with the latest firmware for security reasons

Hopefully they will fix this in next firmware

Found workaround

I had the identical problem with my RT-AC66U.
I have a 2 TB NTFS-formatted USB-drive.

This is what I did:
I connected the drive to my laptop which has Windows 8.1 and Ubuntu 12.04 dual boot. The drive had a GUID partition table. As the drive is not larger than 2 TB I changed to MBR using the Ubuntu gdisk non-destroying utility.
I also changed the partition type from Primary to Logical using EASUS parttion master in Windows. Then I deleted the small garbage partition at the beginning of the drive, making it unallocated.
After this the router is not complaining about the drive anymore.

Add me to the list of DLNA/USB failures after the FW update. Seagate USB drive which had been working flawlessly. Checked it on multiple systems, no errors. Reviewed files, deleted anything I thought might be an issues, still no improvement. Reverted to previous FW, drive is now properly mounted with no errors. Scanning forums shows that this issue is fairly commonplace. Will file ticket with ASUS to correct in next FW.

WD Elements 1TB (NTFS) BRAND NEW HDD same errors

Hi,

I've the same issue with a brand new, never before used WD Elements 1TB ntfs HDD on a brand new RT-AC68U (yes, updated the latest official F/W)

The same msg appears... have erased & formatted the WD stuff from the HDD.
But nothing changed.

I think ASUS is NOT a reliable brand as it was before...

They think us as lab monkeys, beta-testers and my 3 days old RT-AC68U is not an exception.
Having serious problems with Download Master and additionally now with this HDD error msg.

They are just selling the unfinished, half-baked products, offering super-duper feaures, taking our money and that's it.

Now, all of us have a half-baked shirt in our hands, which should be rebooted periodically in order to work !

and for the miraculous Download Master problems, follow the link below.

Solved with remount

Hey Guys:
had same issue with my old WD2500JB on RT-AC68U
Simply removed drive via router admin page/usb utility and BINGO it worked just fine!!!

Hope it helps another

Rock On

Fixed on RT-AC68U by back reving

I fixed this chkntfs error issue on my RT-AC68U by back reving to 3.0.0.4.374_5656. Thanks for the tips.

I have noticed that even in the 5656 build, I cannot schedule a disk scan. When I click apply, the setting just goes back to disabled.

Have others noticed this issue?

*** UPDATE *** Once I turned on iTunes Media and DLNA, the problem returned. I decided to try formatting the disk to EXT3 and got an error message about the drive not being EXT4. I then re-upgraded to the latest firmware and that problem went away. All appears well now and the drive reports "clean." Very strange.

I still can't get scheduling a disk scan to "stick." After selecting "daily" and "apply," the page returns to frequency "disable."

Thanks,
Rob
