Factory Hard Reset

Hey All.

I been Trying to Hard reset My Asus 87u. But it simply wont do it. i did a hard reset by pressing the red botton behind the router. i did that for 5 sec. then i got to thepage when i needed to set the admin and all that. so when i got to the main page of the asus it was still saying i was on the 5134 version.

is there something im doing wrong. i wanted to update to new 5587 beta if it is a beta. i didt do it yet cause it dont know what the factory verison is.

what is the Factory reset verison ?

Resetting it doesn't change the version of the firmware is on it. Resetting it resets it. Lol.
If your router admin page says you are on 5134 that's the version you are on, to change it you have to upload a different version from the firmware upgrade page.

If you want to upgrade to a Beta firmware then you should download it from ASUS and then do a manual firmware update from the routers firmware update page - the auto detect and update will only show released versions. Then after it restarts, you should do a full reset to factory defaults to ensure that the new firmware is fully loaded.

A factory default reset, what you are referring to as a hard reset, makes sure that some saved internal parameters are set correctly to match the firmware. Merlin did a nice FAQ on the topic you should read.
