I am a bit of noobie with an AC68u feeding a nos of windows PCs, NAS, and media devices for which I wish to utilise Purevpn, possibly on a selective basis. I purchased the router on ebay, supposedly as new, but found it pre-configured for merlin and its is currently on 378.52.2.

The router has been running faultlessly for over 6 months which is heaven compared to its Buffalo predecessor which would crash every week. As the system is running so well I am reluctant to change things unless there is a major reason to do so. Can anyone advise if there is a major firmware update post 52.2 which I should flash prior to setting up the system to run Openvpn?

I would also appreciate opinions on whether it would be better to utilise the vpn on an individual machine basis or globally via the AC68u. I wish to use the vpn primarily when downloading and streaming but if the speeds are OK would happily employ it fulltime in the hope it makes the sytem more secure from external intrusions.
