Firmware upload failure

Hi guys hope you can help. I have the RT-N66U, which came with 260 firmware. When i used the firmware checker, it told me my firmware was up-to-date. Knowing that 270 firmware was out, i maually downloaded it and am currently running that. Saw on this forum that the new firmware was out so tried to download that, but it would not download. I read then about Merlin's build and decided to upload that instead. It too failed to load

This is the error message: Firmware upgrade fail. It may result from incorrect image or error transmission. Please check the version of firmware and try again.

Can some one please tell me where i'm going wrong?
Thanks

Did you unzip the file before trying to upload it? It's happened before.

Also, make sure you don't confuse the RT-N66 with the RT-AC66 - two totally different devices, with different hardware.

Thanks got the right file...just forgot (?) to extract it first. Thanks.

Just a quick question, if there ever is one (). I thought i had read somewhere that you can re-name the client names so you know which is which? Can you point me in the right direction?

Thanks
ps. Lovin your build

Under the LAN tab, under DHCP Server, you can "Enable Manual Address Assignment". Then add clients one-by-one, using their MAC addresses, assign them IP's and names. When the dust settles (after hitting "Apply") you'll see those names that you assigned those clients in the "client list" on the "Network Map" page, and in the logs as well.

Nice functionality.

how cool, it's so easy to take over DHCP assignments if you want to bother

And you get to put in your own names too, for the clients, to show up in the router's usage lists. Thanks for the tip.

Uh guy's I don't think you can give name's with asus firmware build's. This is an option with Merlin build's, but asus build's you only have spot for Mac Address, and IP Address, no name option. I really think it's something simple that asus need's to add, but hasn't yet.

Isn't this the Asuswrt-Merlin thread? I thought it was...oh we'll, so it goes *smile*.

I think turn on the 'Force as Master Browser' is also useful if you enable static dhcp names... (USB application, Miscellaneous setting).

It indeed is, but more then anything. It kind of surprises me asus hasn't added DHCP naming option to there firmware releases. This actually had me look again in the newest .354 build asus released yesterday, as I really thought it would of been something they simply added. Anyway's let me stop taking this thread off-topic :P.

I am having the same issues. My current ASUS firmware is 3.0.0.4.374_4561-g5f5c8d8. I do have the Merlin firmware unzipped.

Getting this error.

Hi,

First of all: Are you sure that you downloaded the correct firmware version? There is one for the RT-N66U and one for the RT-AC66U...
I made THIS mistake myself yesterday! :o

On the other hand, memory shortage might be an issue: If you run Dowload Master or AiCloud, you should diable it for the firmware upgrade (especially if you do not have a swap file created)!
You can check the free memory, via telnet by using the free command.

With kind regards
Joe
