Flash Merlin over VPN?

Hey all -

I am looking to add some features to my AC66U but I am remote right now. I imagine that flashing Merlin will reset the router/etc., but is there anything in the settings preserved? And, specifically, would my VPN still work with the new flash to Merling from latest stock Asus?

I strongly advise against remote flashing. Sometimes, the router will get stuck in its reboot stage, requiring a manual power cycle.

My rt-ac66u will stuck on every firmware flashing from wifi and need to power cycle manually, didn't tried wired for long time ago.

If you flash manually over SSH, you can see what's going on. It's because the root filesystem isn't fully cached, so as the router tries to reboot, it will try to access part of the root filesystem, and fail with I/O error results.

So, flashing a device should always be done when there's someone at hand ready to manually reboot the router if that happens.

Not over ssh but from router ui, it's not a big issue replugging the power cord for me :)
