We have been having problems staying connected to the 2.4GHz signal on our Linksys WRT1900AC. The 5 GHz signal is fine, but not as good of coverage. I have been watching the signals on the WiFI Analyzer app(after rebooting, trying different channels). I can see the 2.4 signals go from -25 dBm to -80dBm and then back again. Occasionally the signal will disappear. This is all within 10 feet of the router. The 5 signal stays rock solid steady. At times the 2.4 signal will be steady for hours, then it goes wonky again. Any idea on diagnosis? Is it time for a new router? or ???

Could be the power supply is failing. Or could be the router.

Do you have the router located next to a 2.4ghz device like a cordless phone or microwave?

With Linksys WRT on the Marvell based platforms - WRT1900ac/WRT1900acV2/ACS and the WRT3200ACM (and the WRT1200ac V1/V2)

The defaults for the Marvell platforms can have issues with Broadcom, MediaTek (ex-Ralink), and Realtek clients (which are the majority). It has to do with how Marvell (not Linksys) has implemented the extended data rates outside of the 802.11n Specifications, which can be problematic for some clients.

2.4GHz best settings - b/g/n mixed, narrow channels, and manually select a channel (1/6/11) - there's ongoing issues with the drivers, and best to stick-shift them like mentioned above. Once done, you should see stable and fast performance for your 2.4GHz platforms.

This has been discussed here a few times, and echoed in the official Linksys support forums.
