Anyone tried playing with the TX power on 5g? I know it's regulated, but decided to experiment. 80 is default on my 56u so have tried as high as 160 with no perceived difference.

@Gar, yes, that hasn't changed for many years now. There is only so much it can do, by design. :)

On my 68U I've always left it at the maximum values the GUI will accept (100mW for 2.4GHz and 200mW for 5GHz). There is sometimes a difference between 80mW and 200mW but it really depends more on a) your region, b) the channel, and c) the bandwidth (as the power output varies depending on these).

Yep, same here, also the 68U rev A1. For many years now, 200mW.

You can check the power levels from CLI (SSH):

wl -i eth1 txpwr1 #2.4 GHz
wl -i eth2 txpwr1 #5 GHz

And set too:
wl -i ethX txpwr YY # where YY is in mW

On my N66 with Johns, this seems to be 127 qdbm, 31.75 dbm, 1496 mW regardless of the setting (which is pretty much the max from what I've read elsewhere).

Yeah, it's not quite that simple.;)

The LayoutNG flag is gone in current chrome version
problem is the GUI glitch is back and i can not disable the flag anymore. ir there any eay to solve this?
running FW 39E3 (tried later builds but they give wifi locks after a while)

Hey everyone, just wanted to pop in and see how things are going.

Just recently found out there were dev firmwares. Downloaded the one for my RT-N66U, didn't succeed the first time.

Tried again today, and I think it worked? However, upon trying to login to verify, I got the following message:

To my knowledge, I did not change any settings prior to doing the upgrade. I am not sure what happened, or necessarily how to fix it. I put the web interface on a non-standard port, but even taking the port off the address doesn't allow me to log into the web interface.

Any ideas? Thanks!

How are you trying to log in, exactly?

You usually see that message when the session information has been cached somewhere. The simplest thing is to reboot your router and PC, and then try again. If that doesn't work try another browser on a different PC.

Sorry, should have included that!

I am logging in through Firefox 68.5.0ESR, on Netrunner Linux, just going to the IP address of the router. In my case, that's 192.168.64.1.

Taking the port off, or trying HTTP give me a 'cannot connect' error.

I could try another browser, which I will do now, actually!

EDIT: Yep, tried Chromium on that Netrunner computer. Also tried Chrome (80.0.3987.116 ) and Firefox 73 on my main PC (running Windows 8.1), and still no go :-(

And I just checked which version I uploaded; it was 41E6 from johns' dev OneDrive.

@Syntax Err0r Can you ping the router's IP address, 192.168.64.1? Maybe it has defaulted back to 192.168.1.1.
Hmm.....Yes I can ping the gateway address. All my systems seem to take that as the gateway address, as well.

Just tried the 1.1 suggestion, and still no go.

I don't believe I have telnet/SSH access enabled, so the only thing I can think of is a factory reset. Is that still 30-30-30 with Asus routers? I can probably go back to 39E6 if I need to as well.

OR I can try to use the Asus firmware recovery utility. I think I did that with a botched Merlin update a few years back, and it seemed to take the Merlin firmware to do so as well, IIRC. Now to find it.....

Happens once in awhile to me with firefox as well...exactly as Colin states...do the following and should get you back

Firefox
options/privacy and security/manage data
search for any ip of your router that you have used current and in the past and delete all entries related to the router
reboot computer and you should be off and running

It never was 30-30-30, that's a DD-WRT thing. Just press the reset button for 5 seconds while the router is running.

Hey there. Just wanted to let you know that I did the factory reset. It looks like it did take the E6 firmware. Checked just now and there is an E8, so I did the initial setup and uploaded the E8.

Going through the rest of the setup now! Thanks for the help!
