New Around Here
Hi guys,

For my home LAN i use one one RT-N66U flashed with merlin 3.0.0.4.270.26 firmware. Everything is running fast but i have only one big issue that is taking a lot of time to get fix. I'm from belgium and my internet provider uses one modem/router by the name bbox2. I've manage to get the bbox2 in bridget mode and i have my asus working as router and modem. The only issue that i have is to connect to my lan from outside like someone else house. If I try to ping i get no response, if i try to access my ddns website I also get no response. If i do all this inside my Lan i have no issues. I also did from outside my Lan one trace route to my home IP and it stops when it tries to get response from my home router. I really don't know if the issue is the asus router or my provider modem. I still need to use my provider modem for digital TV. Do you guys have any ideia what would be the issue?

Thanks

There is no issue: that's the firewall/router doing its job!

If you want a specific home machine to provide a specific service like a webserver, you can use port-forwarding: Advanced Settings/WAN/Virtual Server/Port Forwarding/ and add the appropriate services to the port forwarding list.

If you want to access the entire LAN from the outside, use PPTP VPN or openVPN.

Hi,

Do you know your Asus Router's IP address?
I can be found on the web interface of the router in the WAN section.
Or via telnet with the following command and response:
Code:
chief@ASUS_RT-N66U:/tmp/home/root# ifconfig eth0
eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr C4:3D:C7:xx:yy:zz
           [B]inet addr:80.xxx.yyy.zzz[/B] Bcast:80.xxx.yyy.zzz Mask:255.255.255.0
UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
           RX packets:770569244 errors:28 dropped:0 overruns:28 frame:28
           TX packets:835525498 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
           collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000
           RX bytes:2044073250 (1.9 GiB) TX bytes:2535804679 (2.3 GiB)
           Interrupt:4 Base address:0x2000
The external IP address of the router is after the 'inet addr:' label - I have masked it to hide my one.

Showing 80. (in my case) as first part, indicates that I have an external IP address which can be reached from the internet.
If you have an 192.168. or 10. (full list here) then it's an internal one which will not be routed and cannot be reached from the internet.

In case of an private IP address, you need to make sure that the bbox2 acts only(!) as a modem and does not do the router job (even bridge).
I had the same issue with my cabel provider (UPC), and could convice them to take back the router/modem thing and give a rather stupid modem to allows me to use the router of my choice.

Of course you need to allow external connection to a particluar service/port to be able to get into your home network.

With kind regards
Joe

thank you guys for replying. while i was checking everything i did a lot of changes on settings so I started from scratch. Restore everything and started all over and now is working.

Thank you all
