When using the buildin ftp server (AC56u/Merlin AsusWRT) ,files in different directories are not shown,as if they dont exist.
I know I can change the vsftpd.conf using jffs, but I havent found out what to add to the config file so the ftp really shows all files :(

I tried a bunch of different ftp servers (proftp/stupidftp/pureftp/bpftpd) and its the same, some show hidden files by default, yet others are just missing files again.
I.e. all files in the root directory of my moviedisk (nfts/1TB) are not listed when using ftp.Other directories and their contents on the same disk are listed ok.

Any ideas ??

Add to vsftpd.conf:

force_dot_files=YES

Also check for files/dirs permitions.

This is by (ASUS's) design, you can't see files in the root directories. I guess they just wanted to create a "simplified" ftp experience for non-technical people that is entirely managed through the routers GUI. It's annoying.

He told he tested other daemons like proftpd, pureftpd, etc, so that means he also tried entware/optware.

I believe the OP is conflating 2 different issues. One is to do with files that have a "hidden" attribute (Windows) or "dot files" (Unix). The other is to do with ASUS's bespoke implementation of vsftpd which "hides" files in the root directories irrespective of any "hidden" attributes they may or may not have.

There is also the issue of files/folders having the wrong NTFS ownership, as discussed elsewhere. (http://www.snbforums.com/threads/samba-acess-the-stub-received-bad-data.26296/#post-196617)

Or I could have just misinterpreted what he said. :)

You might be right about it, lets see what he has to say about it.

thanks everybody for their input !

@hiddenfiles : I dont need to see hidden files.
And NO,none of the ntfsfiles had the hidden attribute set !

I did a bit of testing with all your info, and discovered the following:
files in the root are not listed ,not on a ntfs nor a ext4 drive.
StupidFTPD@ntfsdrive lists 2 files in the root, while vsftpd shows none.
WHY... I dont know, but the only difference to the other files is that the ftpclient lists these 2 files with NO timeSTAMP (but a date stamp).

As soon as I move files from the root into a subdir (with samba/on ntfs&ext4 alike),they are visible again via ftp,but as soon as they are moved into the root again.. their are gone (again) :(

As everything works flawless with samba, and there seems no workaround to this rootDirbug,I think I will drop ftp for file managing.
As I cant be sure if it shows me all files :(
