Good Premount script......

I am trying to find a good pre-mounting script for scanning ext4 peripherals or just something to delay post-mount... any advice for a novice...

ok so here is my issue. I am noticing that when my router post-mounts after reboot it enters a racing condition, but I also notice that if I unmounts and remount after reboot the racing condition stops. so I am under the impression that something is competing or in conflict when post mount occurs causing this issue. there must the a task the router is performing that is not fully executed before the mount is complete.

I see. What does your post-mount script look like - i.e., what is already trying to happen? Do you see anything in the syslog during boot that might give some hints? You could add a "logger START OF POST MOUNT" at the beginning of the script to see in the syslog where exactly it's running and what is happening before and after. You could also add a sleep delay to post-mount at the beginning to delay it by however long you want to see if that helps. What kind of device(s) are mounting? You may have luck switching to ext2 on some usb storage devices, particularly slower or older flash drives.

edit: you could also add a sleep delay to the pre-mount script to give the router some time before even attempting to mount.

I think I figures it out mad scientist way of trial and error... Thank you for taking an interest though. I simply had to move some things around on the script... I do how ever have an issue on the ext4 drive telling me the mount number has reached its limit and e2fck needs to be run.... any suggestions?

What ultimately was causing the racing issue was a Samba Share being mounted and the routers miniDLNA thinking it needed had to rerun every time the share got mounted... I just had to define DLNA scan points to exclude the samba mount.. I am glad I checked top command...
