I recently got fiber internet and connected my Asus GT-AX6000 to it. After using it a while
I noticed that the WAN led is blinking rapidly all the time and was wondering why.
So I installed entware and tcpdump to check, what is causing constant traffic on WAN interface even when no clients were connected.
From tcpdump I could see the following:
11:49:22.405045 IP 139.97.4.101 > vrrp.mcast.net: VRRPv8, Advertisement
11:49:22.505254 IP 139.97.4.101 > vrrp.mcast.net: VRRPv8, Advertisement
11:49:22.604950 IP 139.97.4.101 > vrrp.mcast.net: VRRPv8, Advertisement
11:49:22.705148 IP 139.97.4.101 > vrrp.mcast.net: VRRPv8, Advertisement

So there is a VRRP advertisement every 0,1 seconds and thats why the WAN led is blinking rapidly all the time.
Also the IP shown in the log above is not my public IP. I'm wondering what could be causing this?

I also have a Netgear R7800 and when I tested with that, I could not see any VRRP messages in the WAN interface at all.
So my assumption is that something is triggering that on the Asus box. I'm using the latest Merlin firmware 3004.388.8_2.

Also, Internet is working fine so this is just a "cosmetic" issue that the WAN led is blinking all the time, because of those messages.

Any ideas anyone?

Thanks
