HD on AC66U

What did I miss?
From my desktop (wired) or laptop (wireless) I can see and access the hard drive I have attached to the ASUS AC66U router but my wife, from her laptop, and by a wireless connection, can access the Internet thru the router but cannot see the hard drive to access it.
I must have _not_ done something, but what?

Are the computers the same OS? Are they using the same browsers? Are all computers connected to the same network? If she is on a guest network, is that one isolated (in the gui)?

If none of the above give hints of why her laptop has issues, try powering down the whole network and bringing it up in stages:
  • after leaving the power off of all devices for at least 10 minutes, power on the modem and wait 5 minutes.
  • now, power on the router and wait another 5 minutes for it to fully boot and stabilize itself.
  • now, power on each client, testing before you power on the next one.
It will help to know what firmware you are on too and what settings you have moved from their defaults.

Also, on the current firmware, have you performed a reset to factory defaults and then manually and minimally configured the router to secure it and connect to your ISP?

Thanks for the reply. All computers are Win 7. Desktop is 64 bit. Laptops are both Dells. Exact flavor I'd have to check.
I update the Router Firmware to latest and greatest (ASUS) last week.
Then did a reset and manually set as much as I could (and did understand).
Didn't take that much time doing it however. Will check and post other settings.

So desktop is W7Pro64. 2 laptops W7HmPremium. AC66U FW is 3.0.0.4.376_3861. After checking that I rebooted the router from the webpage. It came back up without a hiccup. This PM I will badger wife into looking at the network & see if anything changed.
Thanks.

Got the wife's laptop access to the router attached HD. When I looked at her network map, after I turned on Samba at the router, the router icon had changed and a right click showed that she need to specify public or private network. I chose private. Now no more sneaker net to xfer files.
