Hello,
I started this projet early this year, and so far have failed.

It's for a non-profit, thee have 15 machines, 4 used by staff, one by an accountant, and 10 by "the public" (guests and students).

They currently have a NetGear SC101 that works fine, but the fact that is requires software to view doesn't allow people with thier laptops to view files quickly. And a bigger problem is password protection.

We want to be able to create 3 folders or 3 partitions, mappable, and everytime you click - you should be asked for a password (we will have one that is 'open authentication' for visitors/students to drop thier files).

This allows Admin staff to view thier files from Public computers when thier own machines are occupied. At the same time, it prohibits students/visitors from viewing the files.

SC101 can not do it, I decided to get a Linksys NAS200 yesterday but so far, have not been able to get it to work. First, it wouldn't accept the user accounts I created and on the few machines that it does, once mapped - the folder is always available. So, a student can come in and view admin just because someone previously entered the password for Admin.

Can I get some NAS that is IP Based (no software required) and allows for password protecting folders/partitions everytime someone tries to access it. Single drive is sufficient, but RAID would be great.

Maybe the Linksys NAS200 can do it - can someone provide insight on how to do it, maybe I am doing something wrong.

Thanks

I bought the NAS200 and have been able to access it from work with no problem. I gave 2 people at work there own account with password on the NAS200 with no problem also. YTou just have to remember to set it up on your initial computer first. If you have allot of computers connected to your LAN then you have to add access to each computer...Create sub accounts in NAS200 Admin for each person. For instance I gave Ramil his own account and Password. He can access the entire drive but he can only read from it. I am still learning how to narrow it down to just one folder of the drive.
