Help on how bind process to specific IP address

Antiel

New Around Here
Hello there,

newcomer here, so kindly let me know if I'm askins something (too much) weird... I've deployed Amule (from Entware rep) with no problem and now I'm trying to route if through an OpenVpn tunnel, leaving outside that tunnel the rest of the traffic handled by the router (e.g. packets from devices on my lan). For that, plan was to bind the process to a specific IP, but facing some issues on that...

First, I've tried to reuse instructions explaining how to do same thing on Transmission (bind-address-ipv4 application parameter), but unfortunately, corresponding Amule parameter (address) only manages the incoming connections (outcoming connection are always bind to 0.0.0.0 IP.

Then, I've tried using cgroups, but such feature seems to be available from kernels 3.14 and above only.

So, now I'm considering another two approaches:

  • Creating specific user / group to run Amule and playing a bit with iptables to route the packets: Checked the post about multiple users and advice about using a chrooted Debian environment, so, not sure about it being the best solution.

  • Using network namespaces: Tried but, at the very begining, “ip netns add myNamespace” fails for some reason with 'invalid argument' error message.
Is there any other options I'm missing? Or do you know why namespace is failing (firmware is the last available)?.

Many thanks is advance and best regards,

Antiel
