[HELP] RT-AC68U Router based storage via USB

tmarcus68

New Around Here
Hi,

I want to connect my hard disk directly to the router and thus being a network server at my house.

The hard disk i am using is WD 4TB RED, running off a docking station that supports only USB 2.0 / eSata.

Since the router does not have eSata i am left with USB 2.0 option, when i open the router admin page, it shows the hard disk as "Generic External" and the status is unmounted.

this is the log file:

Apr 11 08:43:21 kernel: scsi 4:0:0:0: Direct-Access Generic External 2.10 PQ: 0 ANSI: 4
Apr 11 08:43:21 kernel: sd 4:0:0:0: Attached scsi generic sg0 type 0
Apr 11 08:43:21 kernel: sd 4:0:0:0: [sda] 3519069872 512-byte logical blocks: (1.80 TB/1.63 TiB)
Apr 11 08:43:21 kernel: sd 4:0:0:0: [sda] Write Protect is off

Apr 11 08:43:22 kernel: FAT: utf8 is not a recommended IO charset for FAT filesystems, filesystem will be case sensitive!

From my understanding of bytes is that the 512-byte logic is restricting the router to read my drive as a 4TB? My hard disk has already been initialized and tried on a computer, it is working fine on USB 2.0.

Help greatly appreciated :D

Support for disk sizes > 2 TB and/or using Advanced Format is hit or miss with Linux embedded devices such as a router. This is partly due to the older Linux kernel these are using, and also because enclosure/dock manufacturers do next to zero validation under Linux.

What is this error about?
utf8 is not a recommended IO charset for FAT filesystems, filesystem will be case sensitive!

I know it is self explanatory, but I do not see any other probable options I can select from http://192.168.1.1/Advanced_AiDisk_others.asp

and the label there says: Character set on FTP Server

Which I do not have enabled.
