Help! Unable to connect to bridged router / DHCP reservation not working

Hi all,

First post on the forum, wondering if you can help....

I have two RT-AC88Us (one is the main router plugged into WAN/Modem, the other in bridge mode connecting to the main router wirelessly; of which i then have a number of devices plugged into the bridged router.

When first set up I put the MAC of the bridge router into the main router and it got assigned 192.168.1.2, ever since then it no longer gets assigned that IP and when I look at the Client List on the main router the Bridge Router's IP is constantly circulating through a couple of other IPs (I believe the IPs of the devices plugged into the Bridge).

Can anyone advise on why the Bridge is no longer being assigned the reserved IP (as seen in the attached Client table), why it keeps changing? I'm assuming this is why i can no longer connect to the Bridge, I've rebooted multiple times.

Also to mention, both routers are running the latest Asus Merlin.

Is the MAC Address for the bridge, (when IP was reserved) the same as the one you see in connected devices list? Can you give the bridge a static IP Address instead?

Have you tried using the recommended utility to find the bridge's IP address?

In Media bridge mode, the DHCP-assigned IP address changes. Install and use the Device Discovery Utility to get the wireless router's new IP address.

Hi, thanks for your reply and well spotted; the MAC address was one character off...

So the media bridge is now being assigned the correct reserved IP, however over the past few weeks that I have been monitoring it; the media bridge (and connected devices) are only sometimes visible on the network. I.e. sometimes I can see the media bridge@192.168.1.4 via my internet browser and connect to the NAS which is connected to the bridge via ethernet and other times both disappear off the network. I know that it's not a case that the connection from the media bridge to the router is dropping because i can still connect to the NAS via it's WAN IP.

Any idea why this would be the case? it's very frustrating as it means i often cant connect to any devices plugged into the media bridge. also that strange thing where on the router client list the IP address keeps cycling between the connected devices (but never as 192.168.1.4 the assigned media IP).

This also worked (thanks) so i was able to find the media bridge using this tool. Now that it is always assigned to 192.168.1.4 i no longer need to use it, however when i can no longer see the media bridge on the LAN this tool also doesnt find it (only the main router).

You may want to look for spectrum conflict if on the wireless. Often times communication issues and lag will exhibit themselves with weird problems. Though in your case it appears you are hard wiring to access the device over the network. In that case you may want to check for a bad ethernet connection, or bad ethernet port. Pinches, nics or other issues with the cable itself running to the device can cause some of what you are seeing.
