FlexQoS Help with Fixing device causing stuttering in games

Alex.Devine

New Around Here
Hi there,

I am very new to this forum and would like a little assistance if at all possible.

I am using RT-AX86S with Merlin and FlexQos installed; I think I have it set up correctly, but I believe our streaming TV - Sky Glass is causing massive spikes while I game.

Testing: when the TV is off and not streaming, my connection is perfect, but the minute it starts to stream, Sky TV, Netflix, etc, I notice massive spikes, and it seems my gaming is slowed.

I have shared screenshots of the QOS but am unsure what to provide in the way of other screenshots. If there is anything I can provide, please let me know, and I will see it done.

Thank you.

Can you post a pic of the FlexQoS tab/setup? Also, is your Flow Cache mode set to Auto or Off? Flow Cache should be disabled for newer routers (AX). Check under Tools tab -- Sysinfo -- look at HW Acceleration and look for Flow Cache and check it reads enabled or disabled.

Flow Cache should be disabled for newer routers (AX).
Could you explain why this is the case please? I’ve only seen this recommendation in conjunction with FlexQoS.

It’s a compromise if you really need iptables rules to properly mark traffic using FlexQoS. Not all AX routers are in the same situation as far as I know.

Thank you. So for others reading the thread, if you’re not using FlexQoS is the general recommendation that Flow Cache remains enabled?

Yes. In fact, it’s difficult for the average user to disable flow cache.

In OP’s case, his bandwidth is modest enough that it wouldn’t hurt too much. But I don’t think it’s the answer to his complaint.
