"Holy Grail" Firmware?

I have been playing around with routers and third party firmwares for a while. I remember when DD-WRT and Tomato essentially turned the Linksys Wrt54G into a far more powerful router... those were the days.

I was sort of wondering, is there any big feature we're still waiting for? I find myself anxiously awaiting the next release... and I kind of wonder why. At this point it's all little incremental tweaks right, there's nothing really amazing coming anymore right?

My wish list would be integrated ad blocking (would be so great for network devices like X-Box or on small business LANS0. I'd also love to see VPN client support on multiple WAN connections, or more options for weighting multiple WAN connections. I am aware that new features aren't a priority for Merlin, just throwing that out there.

Don't expect much in terms of major features anytime soon. The codebase has already become difficult to keep in sync with Asus due to the already long list of changes versus the stock firmware, so I am even less likely to make any major addition in the future.

Likely not firmware related but an interesting new wifi technology that I read lately about passive wifi. Instead of a client actively signaling back to the host, this new technology allows the client to reflect or not reflect the wifi signal, thereby saving battery for portable devices.
