New Around Here
Hi,

I am looking to build a home NAS to connect to my router for the following purpose
- data backup -> mainly kids photos and video + documents
- a central place to store all my music and movies and allow streaming to DMA or other computer. I intend to backup all my existing DVD movie into NAS harddisk and stream it from there
- can access files remotely from other computers

I guess the above will qualify as a home server.
Don't intend to setup a computer system. Want to get a NAS solution like Thecus to allow working across all platform

Main thing is backup and streaming. Would streaming movie via wireless be too slow? Cos I intend to get a media player to connect to my HD TV and use it to receive streaming from the NAS. Worry that it might be too slow to allow smooth video playback. Also plan

My devices :-
- Desktop PC
- Laptops : both PC and MAC
- Going to get a media playing DMA to connect to my HD TV. Either a AC Ryan Playon(or something similar) or a media player extender (so I can surf). Any recommendation? WOuld getting a media player with harddisk (like AC Ryan) defeats the purpose of using a NAS to stream movie and music?
- Sony bluray player
- Game consoles

If anyone can help me with any suggesstion, I would be most grateful.

I am looking at the Thecus n0503
