I want to install a wired router with the ability to content filter. For my situation, parental controls on each client is not optimal and OpenDNS doesn't quite get it done for me. Specifically, there is one feature that I am hoping to find in a router--the ability to limit the application of content filtering to specific MAC addresses (or perhaps internal static IP addresses). For example, I don't want guests who come over with a laptop to be restricted in any way, but I do want the "regular" users of the home network to be restricted. And, I don't want to have to flip back and forth in the settings whenever someone might come over. Anyone know if I can find this in a router?

Thanks for any and all advice.

Be warned that we've yet to find a foolproof parental control solution among the routers we've tested. None will effectively filter search results and some can be easily bypassed using site addresses.

The Cisco Connect software that comes with all E series and Valets may do the trick for you. There's a short description here.

You can edit the hosts file on the target PC's. It is an obscure enough change that kiddo's probably won't stumble across it.
