Hi,

As i could read in the forum the merlin FW is good alternative to improve the Asus AC66U, so i would like to install it also, but i just bought this device (Asus Ac66U, 2 days ago), and i would keep the waranty !!!

How can i clone all systeme partition&file from acctually config before attempting to go on Merlin version ?

If router down or brolen i can put back the original FW and send it to Amazon RMA. i got 3 years waranty.

For you : it is better to stay in Originale FW or Better to go on Merlin FW ?

Can somebody tell me how to send 2 different DNS to certain PC in same Lan behind of AP(WRT610N) ?
I mean :
1- all device connexted to the Asus AC66U get 8.8.8.8
2- but the devices connected to AP(WRT610N) get DNS 208.67.220.123 (familly shield)

In WRT610N, no option for lan DNS, even possible, it is in AP mod so it ll ask the DHCP from Asus AC66U.

In Asus AC66U there is DNS for WAN and Lan, but its not help me to split really my lan DNS attribution.

I have 192.168.1.0(not used) 192.168.2.0 (main lan) Network
1- Modem Router ISP (Wan ISP - Lan 192.168.1.1)
2- Asus AC66U as Modem Router (Wan 192.168.1.254 - Lan 192.168.2.1)
3- WRT610N as AP bridge (Wan Nothing - Lan 192.168.2.5)

Thanks for Any answer .

Hi,

A Copy of the original ASUS firmware can be found on the ASUS homepag here.
Plus save your "default configuration" via the web interface of the router via Administration-Restore/Save/Upload Setting-Save setting and you have your backup!

By the way: Merlin is working closely with Asus to improve THEIR firmware and therefore the version aren't really different (see mission statement from Merlin on this topic).;)

With kind regards

Hi,
Thanks for Answer , but where ?
A Copy of the original ASUS firmware can be found here.

U means just keep the Original FW (download from Asus Web) + Save Config = the perfect clon and could be restored in future if need RMA ?
What about JFS or other partition ? no need to be worry ?

If i install Merlin, can i restore my Config file to merlin and get back all of config ?
Acctualy i have this FW : 3.0.0.4.376_3754 , would you tell me wich merlin to install ?

Hi,

You can use the NVRAM Save/Restore Utility to move your user settings from one firmware to the next one - do not forget to do a factory reset before you use the utility.
Do NOT use the backup/restore function of the routers firmware - as described here!

Always use the latest version of Merlin - as described in the first posting of the Asuswrt-Merlin 378.51 is out thread.

With kind regards

PS.: I added the Link to the ASUS homepage in the above posting.
