How to configure wan on rt-ac68u as slave router

headcase5000

New Around Here
I have a FTTH router Genexis Hybrid router as the main router to the house that accepts the fibre.

This is a poor router in terms of coverage and features so I have installed an Asus rt-ac68u as a wireless access point but it seems a shame to not be using all the features of the Asus router.

What im trying to achieve is to get the Asus running as a main router so that it can act as if it were connected to the WAN. (obviously i cant plug the fibre into the Asus)

I have tried running a cable from my Genexis to the Asus and have it plugged into lan1 then I configured the wan settings the same as the genexis router and selected lan1/Ethernet as the conection type but when I take my ipad and connect the wireless to the Asus I can’t get an internet connection.

Does anyone know the proper way to do this.

Many Thanks

Check with your ISP to see of the Genexis router can be set to bridge mode (modem only). If not, you will only be able to run your Asus router in AP mode. As you should be, until you confirm whether the Genexis can be set to bridge mode, or not..

Thanks for the reply unfortunately the genexis doesnt have Bridge mode, or at least the isp doesnt unless you pay £50 extra for the businees connection.
Its a shame because i wanted to make use of the syslog section on the asus which the Genexis doesnt have either.
I have seen on other forums that some people have managed it with the genexis to another router but no instruction for the asus.
