New Around Here
Hi,
I have comcast (modem/router combo) internet at my place. To cover my entire house i purchased a Linksys wifi router by running a LAN cable from xfinity combo box to Linksys router port. So far so good.

But, when i check ip address on computer connected to comcast wifi it gives differen default gate way ip address say 10.1.10.1 and computer connected to Linksys wifi has different gate way ip address say 192.168.1.1

What i want is all my devices should have default gateway of 10.1.10.1. This helps me because i can share printer across all the computers.

Anyone please throw ideas as i am novice with networking stuff.

"still need to disable DHCP" implies that you did that previously on the Linksys. That seems unlikely since you were getting 192.168.1.1 addresses from the Linksys.

Anyway, check to Linksys manual. If it has an "access point mode" then that should automatically turn off DHCP, DNS and all the other "router" functions.

Ok will check. Thanks Again.

Another alternative is to put the Comcast dealie into a "bridge" mode so it just passes along the IP and then you put your Linksys in charge.

ANOTHER option is to buy your own cable modem, and then you save $10 a month from Comcast. you can look up a list of Comcast approved models.

Looks like Linksys calls its access point mode "Bridge Mode".

Beat me to the punch - yes, not quite obvious on Linksys part...

Note that once down that path, you need to access the device with the IP address for reliable connectivity for configuration, as this does tend to break "linksyssmartwifi" stuff... and there one uses the "admin" password and not the smartwifi login.
