How to put a linux device between WAN port of router and the external firbre eth interface for network analysis

Hi

I would like to do some analysis of the traffic coming out of my router and thought I could do this by connecting a device (probably a RPi) to the WAN port of my router where I could route it on to the network and then do whatever analysis I want on the RPi.
Does anyone know if this is possible and if so how I would configure the routing such that traffic is forwarded from the interface connected to the wan to the interface connected to the network ?
I assume I'd have to use some form of bridging configuration to do this, but am not sure.

Use a switch that allows cloning the packets to a different port. Then hang your monitoring device off that port. Probably an x86 based box

Well you don't have to do anything special. The router just has to have the capability.
To use something like wireshark, you would set up a remote tcp dump connection.

But the router has to have ssh access as well as the tcpdump command. So it depends on the router you have.
