New Around Here
Hi,
I have a need to run my local network over 1000 feet. It starts in my building as cat5 and then will run outside, about 1000 feet, to a secondary location and then needs to end up back as cat5.

The two things I know about are converting the cat5 to dsl for the run then back to cat5 or a similar approach with fiber, although I don't know anything about fiber.

I don't know what the best way to go about doing this is. Any ideas would be great, if you need more details, I would be happy to provide them.

Thanks!

If the easement between the two buildings is yours: buried conduit, duplex multimode fiber, and a couple of fiber-to-copper media converters. If not, two wireless access points in bridge mode & two outdoor directional WiFi antennas pointed at each other.

Thanks for the suggestions...I guess I maybe should have also included that this isn't a permanent setup. This will be a temporary network that is mostly running outside..it starts as cable modem in the existing building on site, then for this event will need to be run out of the building approx 1000 feet in total, but at several points along the way, will branch off to various computers/other equipment.

I was considering using wifi, put I wouldn't be able to just use directional point to point since I have these stations in the middle, or would I? Also, this is right on an airport and I have had issues before with WiFi being funny (along with 4G service, both Clear and now Verizon LTE)..both Verizon and Clear have blamed it on interference from the Airport/National Guard on site...don't know if thats just a load of BS or not, but what brand/type of WiFi equipment would you recommend for a covering an area where wireless signals in general seem to be challenging to maintain? Or just go fiber?

Not sure if you already considered it or not but if you are going to be branching off at points along the 1000 feet total couldn't you just setup a switch at every branch? That is provided you don't go over the 328 feet between switches.
