How: Transfer Files between 2 peers only?

I need to receive a set of VM Disk images created by a friend of mine. What would be the best way to do that?

I am guessing he could create a private torrent (shared only with me) or something that I can put into my torrent app that allows ONLY me to download from him when both of us are online.. or leave the machine on at night.

Another way we used to do file transfers (smaller ones though) was through Instant Messaging apps (skype, MSN, Yahoo, ICQ) but I dont know how reliable they would be when it comes to 3/4+ GB worth of Image data that needs to be
- resumable
- non corrupted
- verifiable

Also, for that we used to have to both be online at the same time, talk to each other before initiating the transfer.

Is there / Are there some TORRENT or non-Torrent App ways of doing this. Please suggestions would be great.

Looks basically like a simple FTP. OPs problem is the size of the files, I think.

True. I saw the above posted link before and I'd prefer a true Peer to Peer like Torrent etc.
