Humax IRHD-5300C connected to AC66R

Since last week I got a Humax interactive tuner/player provided for free by my cable company. You can use it to watch regular HD channels and you can use it to connect to a server and watch programs on demand, but I have an issue with the demand part (which uses the internet).

For some reason the interactive tv portal isn't able to connect to the server. My AC66R is connected to a cable modem (provided by my cable company) and the humax is connected to my router. I'm using merlins firmware 376.45. One of the things I've tried, is to connect the humax directly to my cable modem, not using the AC66R. Then the on demand system works, but as soon as I connect it to my router again it's timing out. Very frustrating.

The humax is the only device that I've ever used that gives me connection issues. I don't have any special settings that could interfere with ip traffic and I've looked extensively on the internet for a solution but I haven't found any. Then there's the fact that my cable company doesn't support any other devices than their own modems and modem/routers and that doesn't help either.

So my question is: What is there so special about these interactive players that could cause this? I have tried a lot of different settings that might work, but none of them do.
I'm not getting any information on which ports the on demand part of the humax uses from my provider, because they don't have the information.

The only solution my provider gave is to send my a modem/router and to switch off the wifi part of that device and connect my AC66R to that router and plug the internet cable of the humax in their modem/router too, bypassing the AC66R. I want to keep my network as it is, since my AC66R is a superior router to my cable company's one. Would that work or do I have to switch of the nat firewall on my AC666R when I connect it to another router?
