New Around Here
Hi , can i run cable from 1 of my 10 gig ports on my GT-AEX16000 router to my 2.5 gig nic on my computer instead of the 1.0 gig port? i have comcast it tops at 1.2gig, & i want to get most out of it, my modem is net gear 2050V & has 2.5 gig port would i also run cable to 2.5 wan port from my modem? new at this Thanks

It seems to me you have 2 question:
- can you connect a modem on the 1/2.5G gig WAN port? Yes
- can you connect a 2.5 gig nic to one of the 10G ports? Yes. With proper cable it should negiciate. I didn't try that by myself, I don't have a 2.5g linecard. But unless there's something really odd, no reason why it should not negiciate.

Just make sure you don't enable some weird packet inspection features Asus has...that will not let you reach 1.2G.

Welcome to the Forums.
Yes you can connect out of the ports you stated.
Why would you purchase a 16000 now ( Amazon $529 ), since it doesn't appear to be moving to the newer code base and the tech is old? Do you have a specific need for the extra radio?
EDIT: RT-BE96U is $499 and it is RMerlin fw supported!

The specs on the Asus website don't explicitly state that the 10GbE ports are compatible with 2.5GbE (whereas they do for the WAN port). So I suspect they are not. It's simple enough for you to test. Connect the cable between the router's 10GbE port and your computer's 2.5GbE port and see what the link speed is. If it's only 1Gb then it doesn't support 2.5Gb.

That would seem sensible as the GT-AXE16000's WAN port is compatible with 2.5GbE.

Tks for imput Clark, I got it for $479 thought it was a good price, i'm not real savvay with networking

Send it back and get a BE-class device. Not the best choice in 2025.
