I'm about to give up on the BQ16, Inconsistent WiFi speeds.

I am on the latest firmware now for my BQ16 UK Model 2.4ghz 5gh 1 5ghz 2 and 6ghz Firmware 3.0.0.6.102_36909

I am still getting inconsistent WiFi speeds with this junk, Doesn't matter what band I use, I have noticed it mainly on both 5GHZ bands and the 6ghz band also, Doesn't seem to matter how close I am to the router it is still inconsistent, We don't have many wireless devices connected at home, Aprrox 10 but 99% of the time they're not even doing anything anyway, I am on a reliable Fibre to the premises 1gbit symmetrical broadband package which is perfectly fine when wired to my desktop PC I always get the max speed up and down but Wireless on this thing is just abysmal in my opinion, Link speeds are all over the place even in the same room about 6ft away from the router and WiFi speeds are also all over the place, One min it's full speed up and down next min it's half download speed and full upload speed and next min I get 3/4 of my bandwidth download and only 500mbit upload with nothing else doing anything on the network.

Why is this router so crap and why have Asus not sorted this out yet, They have had long enough to sort out all the issues with these things, I mean I have tested 2 other cheapo 1gb routers a Sagecom provided by my ISP supplier and WiFi speeds are always consistent and now with my new supplier a TP Link EX820V Dual band WiFi 6 cheapo router where my speeds are always maxed out up and down so why is this £550 router so crap? I am so fed up with it and can't even return it anymore because I am way past the return window, I won't be touching another Asus router going forward, My first Asus and my last.

Sorry for the rant but this is not what you expect when you pay this sort of dough for such a simple device that all other cheaper manufacturers seem to just work out of the box!

If you are familair with basic operation and the router is not providing basic operation out of the box, then maybe you have lemon hardware and should not waste much time on it and replace it sooner than later.

I bought the BE30000 and returned it in three days. My 5ghz speeds were as expected but 2.4 on a 1g symmetrical was giving me 40m down and 5 up. It was literally unusable. That was with an out of the box configuration, 5 feet from the router. I had been on Asus for over a decade & it seemed like I always was rebooting or tweaking a setting or something. I'm to the point where I just want my wifi to work. Got a TPLink Mesh for $500, set it up in 20 minutes and forgot about it.

Sorry you missed the return window. That was my fear. I may of gotten a dud but I was at the end of my rope.

I have a great experience with BE30000, rock stable now for all wifi networks and aimesh units specially after last firmware update - 3.0.0.6.102_36909. The 2.4 speed is 102 down and 40 up (my plan upload limit).
Be aware about Tplink: The U.S. government is considering a ban on TP-Link routers due to cybersecurity concerns and potential ties to Chinese cyberattacks

Honestly, I'm not concerned. From CNet article...

“TP-Link has a secure, vertically integrated and US-owned international supply chain,” a TP-Link representative told CNET. “Nearly all products sold in the United States are manufactured in Vietnam.”

I'm glad your BE30000 is working well. As I said, maybe I got a dud. But mine was a hot mess and going by messages here and customer reviews, my experience is not uncommon. Maybe there are different revisions....No idea.

I agree, Maybe it's a lemon, Maybe it's a hardware revision thing that I don't know about or don't even know if they have manufactured newer revisions of these.

I just don't know what it is, it doesn't matter how I set it up, Whether I separate all bands or keep them al together the end result is the same such crappy inconsistent WiFi speeds.

I mean when your ISP gives you a crappy Sagecom router but link speeds are always stable in the usual areas and speeds are always consistent it's embarrassing when they don't cost a fraction of what these Asus routers cost, I've used 2 TP links without issues and without inconsistent WiFi, If I hadn't have dropped £550 on this not that long ago I would swap it instantly for something like the TP Link BE24000 when it is available in my region.

I bought the 3 pack from BestBuy....Almost $1,500. I spent a good 15 hours trying different things & then I tried chatting with Asus who directed me to BestBuy for support! I thought that was ridiculous and returned it on the third day. It scared me. I was afraid of getting stuck with a $1500 router that didn't work....

I think in your case I would have returned without waiting for the window to bypass also, I was warned about Asus's flaky routers with immature software except I never in a million years thought they would take this long to optimise it or maybe it never will be.

Lesson learned for me anyway I'll stick with TP Link in the future, They just work as intended!
